Materials must each be formatted for 8 ½” x 11” page size (no photocopies from publications will be accepted), in 12-point font, with 1” margins on all sides. All pages should include page numbers at the bottom. PDF format preferred for all documents.
Your file names should be in the following format: LastNameFirstInitial-FileNumberFileType. For example, if your name is John Smith and you are applying, you should submit the following four files: “SmithJ-1WorkSample,” “SmithJ-2Resume,” “SmithJ-3Narrative,” and “SmithJ-4Supplements.”
1) A work sample, not to exceed 20 pages. Sample must include a cover sheet with name and a list of poetry titles and content. The work sample may contain information that indicates where the poem has been published or performed, or if it has received any awards for merit.
2) A resume or curriculum vitae, not to exceed four (4) pages.
3) A narrative, not to exceed two (2) pages, describing what the nominee would hope to accomplish during the two years as Ohio Poet Laureate, including ideas for any special projects related to the position.
4) Supplementary materials, not to exceed two (2) pages, including excerpts from published book reviews, judges’ comments, or other critical writings that help contextualize the poet’s work.
