Family Workshop with Melissa Vogley-Woods

Quilt National '09: Led by local artist Melissa Vogley-Woods, children age 6 - 17 will explore tradional quilt patterns as basis for personal discovery. Participants will work with translucent layers of fabric, building up images with drawing, stitches and collage over a pattern-based fabric. No sewing skills are required. Registration is required as space is limited, and all children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration begins November 12 and ends December 4. The Riffe Gallery's Education Program seeks to increase public appreciation and understanding of the gallery's exhibitions. Below are photos from the Riffe Gallery's September 27, 2009, family workshop: HERE and Beyond artist Sarah Fairchild helped children work with common objects such as weeds and flowers to make objects come to life through the use of fluorescent color.
