Governor DeWine Names Kari Gunter-Seymour Ohio Poet Laureate

Governor Mike DeWine has named Kari Gunter-Seymour of Albany, Ohio, the state’s poet laureate. Gunter-Seymour, whose term began June 10, 2020, succeeds the state’s second poet laureate, Dave Lucas. A third-generation Athens Countian, Gunter-Seymour was named poet laureate for Athens, Ohio, in 2018-2020, and the Ohio Poet of the Year in 2020. She is the founder/executive director of the Women of Appalachia Project and a recently retired instructor in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.

Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition Hosts Inaugural Poetry Showcase Aug. 1

For the first time in its history, the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition will host a day dedicated to poetry on Aug. 1. The performance schedule includes recitations and readings by 2019 Ohio Poetry Out Loud State Champion Anna Kahle and other POL participants, Ohio Poetry Association poets, and Ohio Poet Laureate Dave Lucas.
