4 June Call for Nominations Open for Next Ohio Poet Laureate June 4, 2019 Art, artists, For Artists, For the Public, Public Nominations, OAC, Ohio, Ohio Poet Laureate, Poet 0 The Ohio Poet Laureate has the opportunity to foster the art of poetry, encourage literacy and learning, address central issues relating to the humanities and heritage, and encourage the reading and writing of poetry across the state. He or she will be expected to undertake a significant cultural project, such as bringing poetry to underserved Ohioans, and will provide at least 20 public readings or events annually in urban, suburban, and rural settings throughout Ohio. The Ohio Poet Laureate Selection Committee, seated by the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) board, will review nominations and interview semi-finalists. The committee will then make a recommendation to Governor Mike DeWine, who will ultimately appoint the position. The Ohio Poet Laureate’s two-year term begins on January 1, 2020, and ends on December 31, 2021. For information on nomination requirements, please review the Ohio Poet Laureate guidelines. All nominations, including self-nominations, and submission materials must be submitted via the agency’s online nomination form. The Ohio Poet Laureate engages a variety of constituencies, enriching the lives of residents by sharing and promoting poetry through public appearances, readings, workshops, and digital and social media.
