31 Ohio Artists’ Work Featured in the 11th Annual Ohio Online Visual Artist Registry Juried Show November 29, 2017 COLUMBUS, Ohio – November 29, 2017 The 11th Annual Ohio Online Visual Artist Registry (OOVAR) Juried Show, featuring 33 works by 31 Ohio artists, is on display at the Columbus Metropolitan Main Library’s Carnegie Gallery (96 S. Grant Ave., Second Floor) through Jan. 6. Presented by the Ohio Arts Council (OAC), Columbus Metropolitan Library, and Friends of the Library, the exhibition showcases Ohio artists registered in OOVAR, a database of work of more than 1,900 artists from Ohio and all over the world. The artists on display were chosen from a pool of 95 applicants, with almost 285 works being considered. To view a spreadsheet of participating artists, click here. Charles Kanwischer, director of the Bowling Green State University School of Art and an OOVAR 11th Annual Juried Show juror, said he was impressed by the diversity of artwork submitted for the show. “As I made my selections, I kept constantly in mind the idea of including works that will bring enjoyment and pleasure to patrons, while at the same time providing opportunities for reflection,” Kanwischer said. “The work will show visitors the wonderful breadth and quality of Ohio artists. It's a great opportunity for the artists to connect with a non-specialist audience in a prestigious venue.” This year, the show's three jurors are Kanwischer, Laura Anthony of Friends of the Library, and Kelly Stevelt of Columbus Metropolitan Library. In addition to selecting the pieces for the show, the jurors will award a $1,000 Juror’s Choice Award, which is sponsored by the OAC. A People’s Choice Award of $500, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be selected based on ballots cast by patrons of the gallery and library through Jan. 2. Awards will be presented on Jan. 6 during a public closing reception held at the Main Library from 2 to 4 p.m. ABOUT THE OHIO ARTS COUNCIL The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically.
